In her own words…
I was born with Wolff-Parkinson White. It's a fairly common genetic problem. For the first 25 years of my life I would have super rapid heart rates, and have to lie down whenever my heart was racing. I would get dizzy and short of breath, and if the racing continued for more than 10 minutes, I usually felt sick and developed a headache. The first operation I was partially sedated, and it took 8 hours. I could see, hear and feel everything that they were doing - watching them pierce my heart on the screen, and feeling them burning it. There were complications following the operation, and I had to stay in hospital and lie down for 2 days, as the sheath was still in my vein, and if I sat up it would have pierced through my chest. Lying down for 2 days is actually really uncomfortable. The problem was mostly fixed, but I needed a second operation. I actually need a third, but I am quite tired of them poking my heart, so I refused. It is not only a reminder of how delicate the human body is, but also how advanced technology has come. I am grateful for the operations, and it has made me appreciate and take better care of my body. From time to time I still get rapid flutters, but they never last for more than 10 seconds.
Becky is a great inspiration, despite having to overcome many obstacles, she’s battled through and is taking her skills and passion to the next level! Thanks so much for supporting GCASFM with this mix.
